DIPLOMA IN REMEDIAL & SPORTS MASSAGE

The Diploma in Remedial and Sports Massage course provides in-depth, practical tuition in both Remedial and Sports massage by building on Swedish massage methods - by introducing a wide range of highly effective new techniques.

These include:

advanced consultation skills and appropriate safety checks

assessment procedures to accurately identify conditions and injuries

myofascial, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques (MET)

trigger point therapy

proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)

stretching

active, passive and resisted mobilisations

joint and spinal mobilisation techniques

The treatment of many common disorders and injuries is covered along with a specific module dedicated specifically to Sports Event Massage - working with athletes in competition and training.

Further study in relevant Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology accompanies the extensive 'hands-on' sessions ensuring the student gains the necessary experience to practise successfully in both the remedial and sports fields.

The Diploma is a professionally accredited qualification - allowing the graduate to gain professional indemnity insurance and to go straight into practice as soon as they graduate.

The course is accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University and attracts:

60 credits at SCQF Level 8

How to:

Reduce Pain, Restore Balance, Increase ROM & Improve Performance

To assess, differentiate and identify conditions such as muscular problems, ligament problems & joint capsule problems. To utilise active, passive and resisted test and mobilisation techniques and safety check techniques for contraindication identification. In-depth anatomy of the main joints of the body, their ligaments, the muscles acting and the common injuries & conditions which affect them.

Practical treatment techniques including:

advanced soft tissue, trigger point therapy, muscle energy (MET), PNF stretching, neuromuscular, myofascial, spinal mobilisation, peripheral joint mobilisation and traction.

Specific treatment protocols for many conditions including:

tennis elbow & ankle sprain, low back pain & pelvic issues, muscle impingement sciatica, frozen shoulder and iliopsoas tension disorders.

Massage in sport including:

specific sporting injury treatments, psychology of sports massage, rehabilitation and sports event massage.
